Top 8 Allergen Free Brussel Sprouts with Maple Bacon and Cranberries

One of our favorite sides is also a fantastic sharable holiday side dish.   Start out with a bag of brussel sprouts or enough for the number of portions.  You have to feel this out for yourself based off how much you like them.

After cutting off the brussel stems and slicing each in half, begin to pre cut some raw bacon.  We use about an 1/4 of a lb. of allergy safe bacon (read your ingredients)  0002200647Simmer the bacon until about 75 % cooked, then using the bacon grease toss in the brussel sprouts and stir.  0003202330Once the brussels are coated ok, add about a cup of raw organic cranberries.   Stir these occasionally and saute for about 5 to 8 minutes.   0004202350Add some salt and pepper to taste, and once they begin to cook slightly, add about 1/4 cup of maple syrup.  0005202547Maple syrup make everything better.  🙂   We say use about a 1/4 cup, but as you can see here, Jen just adds it until it just looks perfect.  (Whatever that means)  0006203652A few more minutes of mixing the ingredients together and they are ready to be served.   Add them as a side to this delicious 8 hour crock pot short rib meal and sweet potato side!  YES!  0007204849

Let us know how yours come out!  and also if you make any modifications 😉

Hi! We were told your blog name from
Marc at Keep Your Daydream. We are thinking of full time RVing but like your daughter, our family has severe allergies and a two of us have asthma. We have went to great lengths to keep us all safe and healthy. We are allergic to tons of food, pets, everything environmental, perfumes, chemicals, scented things, pets, medications, smoke of all varieties, etc. and the crazy thing is 2 of our 4 kids are adopted and are still allergic, Even without shared biology! Plus we are weeks away from bringing home child number five and we wonder will the trend with our next continue? Yet even with kids ranging from 20-3 yrs old, the idea of living more simply and chasing warm weather seems like a healthier fit for all of us. Our biggest concern is campfires and if there is any way to minimize, or avoid altogether this issue? For us, this is the biggest hindrance.
