Tequila Lime BBQ Ribs Recipe. Homemade Honey BBQ Sauce.

Seasoning for the ribs is as follows. (Makes enough for 2 full racks)

Score the back membrane of the ribs lengthwise 2 to 3 times. Then sprinkle one rub on the front AND the back.

Pour 1/2 Cup of tequila into the bottom of the pan. (This will be the “moisture” that helps sweat the ribs) Then squeeze 1 lime (cut into wedges) and place the wedges around the ribs.

We use a large restaurant style box of plastic wrap, and with that place one layer over the fullsize hotel pan.

With the plastic wrap stretched and sealed, place one full sheet of large aluminum foil on top and make a tight lid seal around the plastic wrap. (This creates a pressure cooker type of enclosure that will keep the ribs from drying out during cooking)

With the oven set to 275F-300F, cook for 3 1/2 – 4 hours. Upon opening up the pan, check to see if the bones pull right off the meat or not. They should literally slide right out of the rack if cooked enough.

We then let them cool in the pan, then wrap them in plastic wrap and refrigerate until you are ready to grill them. Up to 3 days later if you would like.

In order to keep the recipe Shayla Free and free of the top 8 allergens, we make our own sauce from scratch. (one of Shayla’s favorite things to do)

There is no real recipe for the sauce, but these are the ingredients. Here is the basic ratio. A couple of cups of ketchup, 2 tablespoons of dijon mustard, 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup, 2 tablespoons of balsamic vinegar and season with paprika, garlic salt, salt & pepper to taste. Simmer and constantly stir the bbq sauce for about 20 minutes.
When grilling, place the ribs upside down first. Grill with BBQ sauce spread on the bottom. After about 7 minutes flip them over to the top side and put on as much sauce as you see fit. You only need to flip them one time. Grill them until the BBQ sauce begins to caramelize. About 6-8 Minutes. Total cook time on grill 15 minutes.

We are able to make this recipe a few days before we go camping and bring the cooked ribs with us so we can quickly make an amazing dinner on the roads. Bring on the wet wipes!

The bones should come right out of the meat, as demonstrated by our girls

Cole is hoping that we drop some bits on the ground.
